Lynchburg Police reopen homicide investigation from 2017

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – More than three years after a Lynchburg man died from injuries sustained in a shooting, local law enforcement decided to reopen the investigation into his homicide.

According to the Lynchburg Police Department, officers responded to a vehicle crash in the 600 block of Rodes Street shortly after 4:30 a.m. on Aug. 31, 2017.

When police arrived at the scene, they reportedly found a man with several gunshot wounds.

The department says the victim — identified as 34-year-old Jermaine Hawkins of Lynchburg — was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital, but he died from his injuries on Oct. 7, 2017. 

On April 22, 2021, police announced they reopened this investigation.
