UPDATE: Man dies after Sunday night shooting in Lynchburg

UPDATE 1:30 a.m.: Police say a person is dead after a shooting in Lynchburg on Sunday night.

The Lynchburg Police Department says officers responded to the 700 block of Madison Street shortly before 9:15 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 24, for a report of a malicious wounding.

When police arrived on scene, they found a man with gunshot wounds. The man was reportedly taken to Lynchburg General Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The department identified the victim as 66-year-old Frank Thomas Smith, Jr. of Lynchburg.

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Police are investigating a shooting that occurred at the 700-block of Madison Street in Lynchburg Sunday night.

According to a tweet from the Lynchburg Police Department just after 9:45 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 24, one person has been taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The shooting comes on the same night that a vigil was held in memory of Samantha Robinson, a 28-year-old mother who was shot and killed while she was driving in her car on Thursday, Jan. 21.
