UPDATE 10:20 p.m.: Police have confirmed the victim who was shot at the Family Dollar in Lynchburg Monday evening has died at the hospital.

The Lynchburg Police Department says 23-year-old Erica Jade Boykin of Lynchburg, was shot shortly before 6 p.m. on Monday, June 14 at the Family Dollar at 2029 Fort Avenue.

Boykin was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital, where he later died.

The shooting is now being investigated as a homicide.

Police continue asking for the public’s help in this shooting. If you were in the area during the shooting, you are asked to call Detective Miler at (434) 455-6160 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 798-5900.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.


UPDATE 6:55 p.m.: Carrie Dungan with the Lynchburg Police Department spoke with WFXR News about the shooting Monday evening at the Fort Avenue Family Dollar in Lynchburg.

She says that the shooting took place in the parking lot just before 6 p.m. on Monday, June 14.

Police say they cannot identify a potential suspect at this time.

According to the Lynchburg Police Department, the shooting took place at the Family Dollar.

One victim has been taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
