UPDATE: One in custody after report of ‘multiple shots fired’ in Lynchburg

UPDATE 6:25 p.m.: Police in Lynchburg have released additional information on the shooting on Chambers Street from Tuesday afternoon.

The Lynchburg Police Department says the shooting happened just after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 17 for a report of “multiple shots fired.”

According to police, 911 callers reported hearing several shots, as well as seeing a dark-colored SUV leaving the area around the 500 block of Chambers Street.

Officers say they were able to take one person into custody and recover a stolen firearm.

Several vehicles and apartments were struck by gunfire during the incident, but police confirm that no injuries have been reported.

Police say this is an ongoing investigation.


LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – Police in Lynchburg tell WFXR News that they are investigating a report of shots being fired Tuesday afternoon.

The department says the incident took place in the 500 block of Chambers Street.

They say that there have been no reports of injuries at this time and there is no active threat to the public.

The Crime Scene Unit was on the scene with officers investigating the incident; however, officers have cleared the area.
