LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Lynchburg’s Peacemakers took to Timberlake today to support the community after a 15-year-old was shot and injured there on Monday, April 10.
The Peacemakers say their goal is to set up patrols in areas that experience frequent violence and be a resource to the community. Kenneth Hunter captains the group and says it’s all about introducing opportunities to these neighborhoods.
“Today is more of a reactive measure than what we are normally designed for. We are more protective,” he said. “We don’t want to keep responding to shootings, we want to respond to neighborhoods, to the communities directly affected by this violence and start to create circumstances that don’t lend themselves to this kind of thing happening.”
Hunter says the community they visited today at the vistas at dreaming creek was particularly receptive to their mission and is ready to see change.
