Lynchburg PD “frustrated” by lack of help from public in homicide investigations

Lynchburg & Central Virginia News

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Lynchburg Police are asking for your help in two homicide investigations.

66-year-old Frank Thomas Smith was shot and killed on the 700 block of Madison Street on Sunday, Jan. 24, just days after 28-year-old Samantha Robinson died after being hit by a stray bullet while she was driving her car down 12th street on Thursday, Jan. 21. She left behind an 11-year-old son.

Police Chief Ryan Zuidema says he is “frustrated” by the level of violence and the lack of cooperation from the public.

“We know factually that there are witnesses to these homicides that will not cooperate, and that is very, very frustrating,” he said in a Zoom press conference with reporters on Monday, Jan. 25. “These are people that hold information that could help solve a crime where someone has lost a loved one.”

Smith’s death marks the second homicide of the year in Lynchburg, after Robinson.

If you have any information about either of these cases, you’re asked to contact the Lynchburg Police Department.
