Lynchburg officials announce no trash pickup Thursday, urges downtown residents to park free in city-owned lots ahead of winter storm

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Officials with the City of Lynchburg have announced the following information.

As the winter weather approaches, city officials say that primary and secondary roads have been treated around the city with brine.

The City has also announced that trash collection for Thursday, Feb. 18 has been postponed due to the Region 2000 Service Authority being closed due to the winter storm. All trash collection for Thursday will be picked up on Friday.

The Concord Turnpike Convenience Center will be closed on Thursday.

Downtown residents are being encouraged to park in parking decks. The City of Lynchburg’s Parking Management Department is suspending parking enforcement operations and is encouraging downtown residents and employees to park their vehicles in City-owned parking decks so Public Works crews can clear streets more efficiently.

Free parking will be allowed in the following areas.

  • Midtown Parking Deck (Levels B-E) – accessible from the 900 block of Main Street, Ninth Street and the 900 block of Commerce Street.
  • Clay Street Parking Deck (Second level only) – accessible from Clay Street and behind the Lynchburg Museum.

Free parking will be allowed in these decks between 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17 through 7 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19.
