LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Archery season for deer hunting is officially underway across the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Lynchburg Parks and Recreation Department encourages first-time hunters and newer hunters to take hunter education courses as soon as possible.
A department representative says a common mistake is shooting too soon. Also, they say that if you aren’t hunting, be extremely careful when in wooded areas.
“It is really important for even the general public to know to wear bright colors, keep your animals on a leash because accidents do happen. Dogs love to chase deer and some really big dogs can look like deer,” said Hannah Rathje, the senior recreation specialist for Lynchburg Parks and Rec.
It’s important to know the regulations and which season it is before going out. You can find out more about the Commonwealth’s hunting and trapping guidelines by clicking here.
