CARROLL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A 25-year-old man has passed away after a vehicle crash in Carroll County on May 6th.
According to the Virginia State Police, around 12:15 a.m. Jerry K. Stafford, from Hillsville, was driving north on Route 743 in a 2013 Dodge Dart when he came into a curve and ran off the side of the road. Investigators believe Stafford overcorrected, causing the Dodge to slide off the left side of the road, where he hit a fire hydrant and went over an embankment, causing his vehicle to flip over.
First responders transported Stafford to the Wake Forest Medical Center in North Carolina for treatment. However, on May 19th, he passed away from his injuries.
The crash remains under investigation, but it was learned that Stafford was not wearing his seatbelt.
