LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — A motorcyclist lost his life early Saturday morning following a high-speed crash along Fort Avenue in Lynchburg.

The Lynchburg Police Department says officers were dispatched to a motorcycle crash in the 1900 block of Fort Avenue shortly after 4:45 a.m. on Saturday, May 21.

According to officials, the motorcycle, which was the only vehicle involved in the crash, was traveling at a high rate of speed when it went off the roadway and hit a utility pole.

The driver of the motorcycle — identified by police as 41-year-old Jermaine Lamont Jones of Lynchburg — was pronounced dead at the scene.

The roadway was reportedly closed for several hours from Saturday morning’s incident.
