Group constructing housing for homeless veterans in Altavista

Lynchburg & Central Virginia News

ALTAVISTA, Va. (WFXR) – In Altavista, there’s hope and housing for homeless vets.

One hundred tiny homes are being constructed across more than 300 acres to offer a community that wants to help get servicemembers back up on their feet.

Headed by two retired generals, The National Center for Healthy Veterans is constructing the homes.

They’re even working to add more homes and opportunities in Altavista on its land, “Valor Farms.”

“We pull them together in community. We know that veterans profit from being with other veterans – people that understand their life experience.”

Thursday is Veterans Day and the Center is celebrating with a commemorative event.

Former United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Ben Carson, is slated to be the keynote speaker.

A special concert will follow.
