LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Friends of the man who died after being shot outside the Family Dollar on Fort Avenue in Lynchburg Monday night sat down with WFXR News, speaking with his mother Toya’s permission.
To them, he was known as E or Novaa.
They say he was passionate about his burgeoning rap career and his desire to take care of his mom and son.
“To hear Toya say to me, ‘I just want my baby back.’ As a mother, that is something you never, ever want to think about,” said Tauri Tucker.
Tucker knew Novaa for years and is close with his mother Toya. She says Toya wants people to know this about her son.
“Novaa was an organ donor, which also speaks to the testament of who Novaa was as a person. In life he gave, and in death he gave.”
Tucker says she’ll remember Novaa’s smile and kind heart.
“It didn’t matter where I saw Novaa. I could be anywhere, and any time, ‘Auntie, you okay? You need anything? I love you.’ Every time.”
“This is so unexpected,” said Tucker, reflecting on Novaa’s homicide. “It is so confusing for this to happen to someone that tried hard to diffuse any situation.”
Novaa’s neighbor Agia Robinson will remember him as outgoing and outspoken.
“Very funny. Very playful. Very nice,” said Robinson. “It’s very sad because I just know when I open my front door, I’m going to come out and get to say hello to him one more time.”
Police have not named any suspects yet.
You’re asked to call the Lynchburg Police Department or Crime Stoppers if you have any information.
WFXR News found a warrant filed in Lynchburg Circuit Court asking Google to provide information for any and all cellphone, blue tooth, GPS, and other electronic data from devices that were in the Family Dollar area shortly before and after the shooting.
