UPDATE 10:31 a.m.: Several people have been brought to the hospital following the Friday morning crash along U.S. Route 460 West (Richmond Highway) in Lynchburg.
According to the Lynchburg Police Department, one of the two vehicles involved in the crash ended up overturning.
Police say three people have been transported to Lynchburg General Hospital, two of whom are seriously injured.
However, the Lynchburg Department of Emergency Services says U.S. Route 460 West is now back open near the Concord Turnpike and Templeton’s Market.
UPDATE 10:08 a.m.: VDOT says the westbound right lane and right shoulder are still closed on U.S. Route 460 near the U.S. Route 29 South ramp, leaving Lynchburg traffic backed up for approximately a mile-and-a-half at this time.
UPDATE 9:53 a.m.: With all westbound lanes closed on U.S. Route 460 (Richmond Highway) near the intersection with the U.S. Route 29 southbound ramp, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) says traffic is backed up for two miles.
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Lynchburg motorists are asked to seek alternate routes Friday morning following a crash on Richmond Highway.
The Lynchburg Police Department says the 4900 block of Richmond Highway (U.S. Route 460) is shut down.
Traffic is being diverted down Concord Turnpike at this time, according to police.
The Lynchburg Department of Emergency Services recommends drivers avoid the Richmond Highway between the Concord Turnpike and Templetons Market at this time.
