LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Fireworks are coming back to Downtown Lynchburg this summer ahead of Independence Day.
Downtown Lynchburg Association (DLA) made the announcement Thursday. The fireworks display will take place on Friday, July 2.
It will be the first time since 2017 that fireworks will be provided downtown for public enjoyment, according to DLA.
Viewers will have their selection of public spaces to enjoy the show, including Riverfront Park, the Lower Bluffwalk, and even a portion of Midtown Parking Deck which will be closed to vehicles due to the Main Street Renewal Project.
The display will begin just after dark, around 9:15 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic, chairs, and blankets.
“After a year of quarantine and social distancing, we are thrilled to provide a family-friendly attraction that can be seen all around downtown. Our community showed up last year and rallied around our small businesses, and we hope that they will continue to do so at this event by eating a meal at a local restaurant, visiting our unique retail shops, or grabbing a beer at one of the two breweries that opened in 2020.”Ashley Kershner, Executive Director of Downtown Lynchburg Association
DLA says some local businesses will also be offering viewing opportunities, special menus, takeout options, and shopping deals.
The fireworks display will be hosted by DLA and sponsored by BWX Technologies.
All event information and updates can be found on the Downtown Lynchburg Association website.
