LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — After going missing earlier this month, 37-year-old Clarissa Jones was found dead over the weekend in Lynchburg. Now, her family is speaking out about her death and the man who was arrested in connection with her homicide.

Clarissa’s family reported her missing on Dec. 2, but as time went by, they say they became more frightened about where she was and if they would ever see her again.

The Lynchburg Police Department says Clarissa’s body was discovered in the 200 block of Trents Ferry Road on Sunday, Dec. 19.

According to the department, 41-year-old Leonard Eugene Blackwell Jr. of Lynchburg, was arrested and charged with murder, prohibition against concealment of dead bodies, concealing or compounding offenses, and three counts of failure to register as a sex offender.

“I’m just standing here wondering why this guy did what he did to my daughter and I hope he gets punishment like he’s supposed to get because my daughter didn’t deserve this,” said James Jones, Clarissa’s father.

“You knew there was a possibility but it’s still hard,” James’ wife and Clarissa’s stepmother, Marvetta Jones, added. “At least we know where she is.”

James admits that he may have seen Blackwell at a local market in the past.

“I love my daughter,” said James. “Why this man did this, I don’t know.”

James also says it’s unusual not to hear from Clarissa around the holidays, adding that the last conversation he had with her was in November.

“She said, ‘Daddy, when are you going to give me a Christmas present?’ I said, ‘Baby, call me back in a couple of weeks.’ I never did hear any more from her,” James shared. “She always used to come over here or call me for Thanksgiving. I never heard a thing from her. I knew something was wrong and my baby was missing. I knew something was wrong when her sister called and said she didn’t hear anything either.”

Clarissa’s family says now they just want justice for her.

If you have any information about Clarissa’s death, you are asked to call Detective Davis with the Lynchburg Police Department at 434-455-6166 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-798-5900.
