RUSTBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Brittany Dawson, a Campbell County E-911 dispatcher, was recently awarded the “Stork Pin” for successfully aiding in the delivery of a baby during a call into dispatch on June 8.

Not only did Dawson help keep the caller and mother calm during the call, but she also continued to give instructions throughout the entire birthing process. In fact, the baby arrived before medical teams arrived on the scene to provide medical assistance!

Dispatcher-assisted childbirths are rare overall. Specifically, Campbell County reports only a small number occur each decade.

Dawson received the Stork Pin and even had a chance to meet the little girl she helped deliver. On top of that, she was presented with flowers and a certificate of accomplishment.

“Brittany is a perfect example of the excellent service our dispatchers provide on every call,” said Campbell County E-911 Center Director Myra Simpson. “We wish the family and newborn baby all the best.”
