‘Downtown Lynchburg is ready for business’: New beer garden creates more options for nightlife

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — New businesses are sprouting up near the downtown area in Lynchburg and contributing to the ‘Downtown Lynchburg 2040 Masterplan’, a revitalization project that started off as an idea in 2017 and is now being put into action.

Scott Campbell from Utah is looking to relocate and says Lynchburg is number one on his list. Some reasons for choosing Lynchburg include the tax rate, property taxes, and demographics.

“I really like downtown,” said Campbell. “It seems like it’s up and coming; it seems like there’s a lot of new businesses coming here.”

One of the first spots he visited was Greenhaus Beer Garden during its opening night on Friday, Sept. 24.

Greenhaus is a new beer garden on 11th and Church Street. One of its goals is to promote more creativity downtown and add to the new modern atmosphere.

“Downtown Lynchburg is really where I think Lynchburg makes its character happen,” said owner Sean Bailey. “We have over 100 plants, very big ones, including a person who is dedicated fully to the plants; a different, interesting menu; we’ve got a sound and lighting system so any musical acts can just come plug and play.”

It will also offer another option for nightlife.

“We have a full-service bar, but we also have a self-serve beer wall with 21 taps which are also unique to Lynchburg,” Bailey added.

The new spot aims to represent diversity and be one of many new businesses contributing to the character of Lynchburg.

“Between the developers and the restaurants that started sprouting, it’s a signal to everyone else that Downtown Lynchburg is ready for business,” said Bailey.

That signal is being recognized.

“There’s stuff to do, local food which is great. I’ve eaten at so many different restaurants, and they’re all great,” Campbell said.

Regular hours for Greenhaus are Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 a.m.
