ALTAVISTA, Va. (WFXR) – Altavista on Track (AOT) has announced that the downtown façade loan program has officially been converted to a grant program.
Funding for this grant will assist downtown property owners and businesses to help in improving their building’s exterior appearance.
AOT says they believe that the proper improvements to the exterior of the buildings in the downtown area will help to “develop the appropriate image of a welcoming and inviting community while fostering revitalization and the marketability of the downtown district.”
Requests for façade grants will be looked at on a first-come, first-served basis.
Approved applications will be eligible for a grant of up to $5,000 or 50-percent of the costs of exterior rehabilitation – whichever is less.
The grant is a 50/50 matching grant where eligible projects would include cleaning of brick stone fronts, repair or replacement of façade materials; removal of false fronts, such as wood or metal panels; exterior painting; purchase or installation of new and approved awnings; repair or replacement of windows, doors and trim; and authentic reconstruction and replacement of original exterior architectural details.
Grant applications are available at the Altavista Town Hall.
Additionally, AOT is reminding businesses and property owners about design services offered through the Virginia Main Street program.
Any business or property owner who is interested in upgrading their façade can contact George Sandridge, Main Street Coordinator at (434) 369-5001, ext. 111 or email email@example.com to complete an application.
