UPDATE: Woman dies after crashing into tree off Route 24 in Bedford County, State Police say

UPDATE 12:22 p.m.: Hours after crews cleared the scene of Monday morning’s crash along Route 24 in Bedford County, police announced that a woman died in the crash.

According to Virginia State Police, the single-vehicle collision took place just after 7 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 20 on Route 24, about a tenth of a mile east of Spradlin Road.

Authorities say a 2003 Saturn LS2300 was heading west on Route 24 when the the vehicle crossed the center line, ran off the left side of the road, and hit a tree.

The driver of the Saturn — identified by officials as 41-year-old Vanessa Jane Hylton of Moneta — was not wearing her seatbelt and died at the scene of the wreck.

As of this writing, Virginia State Police say this fatal crash investigation is still ongoing.


UPDATE 10:07 a.m.: According to VDOT, crews have cleared the scene of Monday morning’s crash in Bedford County and reopened all lanes along Route 24.


BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A vehicle crash in Bedford County has led to lane closures in both directions along Route 24, which means that motorists may run into delays Monday morning.

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), all eastbound and westbound lanes of Route 24 are closed near Moles Farm Road, Morgans Mill Road, Spradlin Road, Route 635, and Spaldin Road.

While there is no official estimate of the traffic backups at this time, VDOT says that delays are expected.
