Crews spend hours battling blaze at large lake house in Huddleston

HUDDLESTON, Va. (WFXR) — From late Saturday night into early Sunday morning, first responders in Bedford County worked together to fight a fire at a Huddleston lake house.

According to the Moneta Volunteer Fire Department, crews were requested shortly before 11 p.m. on Saturday, May 29 for a residential structure fire along Lighthouse Lane in Huddleston.

The Bedford Fire Department says deputies found a gas grill fire on the back porch, but after an unsuccessful attempt to extinguish the fire, reported that the fire had moved to the porch roof and house siding.

When units arrived on scene, fire officials say they found found heavy flames and smoke showing from the large lake house, so personnel from different units combined their personnel and began a defensive attack.

The Huddleston Volunteer Fire Department says their crews — along with crews from Saunders, Moneta, SML Marine, and Bedford — worked for a long time to extinguish the fire before clearing around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 30.

There are no reports of injuries resulting from this fire, which is currently under investigation, fire officials say.

There is no word on the extent of the damage to the lake house at this time.
