HUDDLESTON, Va. (WFXR) — After hours of battling a brush fire, the Huddleston Volunteer Fire Department says the blaze on the Smith Mountain Lake Parkway has been extinguished.
Around 6:30 p.m. on March 18th, several firefighter crews including the sheriff were dispatched to a large brush fire in the Dowdy Crossing and Smith Mountain Lake Parkway area. When crews arrived at the scene, the blaze had grown and crews began efforts to contain the fire.
After several hours, the fire was marked under control and crews cleared the scene. The Virginia Department of Forestry stayed at the scene overnight.
At this time there are no reported injuries.
