UPDATE 8:20 p.m.: WFXR News has been told that the fire burning in Amherst County has charred nearly 30 acres so far.

Crews with the Department of Forestry say they believe the brush fire was caused by a downed power line.

So far, no homes are threatened and no one has been hurt.



AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Crews are currently working an active brush fire in Amherst County.

According to the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office, the brush fire is along Cedar Gate Road northwest of Monroe or east of Elon.

The department says no homes are currently threatened and multiple agencies – including the Department of Forestry – are currently on the scene battling the fire.
