It happened on Saturday, Dec. 25 at 3:13 p.m. on Prince Edward Highway just west of Milford Lane. Police say a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer was traveling east on Prince Edward Highway when the driver ran off the road into a ditch and the car overturned.
Authorities tell WFXR News that 64-year-old Wayne A. Alegre of Pamplin was taken to the hospital for serious injuries. He was behind the wheel, wearing a seatbelt, and ejected from the car, according to police.
There was a passenger also in the vehicle, 43-year-old Bridget R. Alegre, who was also taken to a hospital for treatment, but later died from her injuries. Virginia Police say the woman was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the car.
