ALTAVISTA, Va. (WFXR) — First responders from Campbell County and Pittsylvania County spent hours battling a serious structure fire at an Altavista home Sunday afternoon.

According to Altavista Fire Company, crews responded to 1700 Avondale Drive at approximately 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 11 for reports of a structure fire.

When units arrived at the scene, they found heavy flames showing from the basement, with extension to the home’s main level. The first crews to arrive stretched out attack lines and began working to suppress the fire.

The fire company says Station 31 from Pittsylvania County was later added to the call for manpower. Members of the Evington Volunteer Fire Department, Altavista Police Department, and Campbell County Public Safety also assisted at the scene.

More than three hours later, officials say all units cleared from the scene.

There is no word on the extent of the damage to the home, the cause of the fire, or whether anyone was hurt or displaced as a result of the fire.
