Bedford man jailed for felony child abuse

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Deputies in Bedford County have arrested a man who is facing charges of child abuse.

According to the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, a complaint about a possible incident of child abuse was reported on Sunday, July 18 near the Town of Bedford.

Deputies immediately responded to the scene and found a four-year-old victim who had severe bruising and a burn to the body.

As authorities investigated, they learned the child was in the care of 21-year-old Derius Andre Moore of Bedford.

Moore was arrested and charged with felony child abuse and neglect causing serious injury. He is currently being held without bond at the Bedford Blue Ridge Regional Jail.

Additional charges are pending as the investigation into this incident continues.
