BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Early Thursday morning, the Bedford Fire Department was dispatched to several locations along the Lynchburg Salem Turnpike for reports of several fires alongside the roadway.

Upon arrival on Thursday, Dec. 23, the department says crews located a total of four fires that were spreading rapidly due to high winds and dry vegetation.

All westbound traffic was shut down for a period of time as crews worked to remove a large pine tree involved in one of the brush fires.

Once all fires were extinguished and all debris was removed, traffic returned to normal.
