UPDATE: Industrial structure fire put out by Bedford County crews, Georgia Pacific says

UPDATE 11:38 a.m.: A representative for Georgia Pacific told WFXR News that Wednesday morning’s industrial structure fire at the Big Island paper mill has been put out after drawing a response from crews around Bedford County.

According to Chris Hughes, public affairs manager for the Big Island Mill for Georgia Pacific, the fire started in the dryer hood for a paper machine that uses recycled materials.

Crews reportedly arrived at the scene very quickly and took less than half an hour to put the fire out.

There are no reports of injuries at this time, but Hughes told WFXR News that the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

Hughes says this mill has been around for 130 years and makes raw materials for boxes.

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Bedford County first responders are reportedly responding to an industrial structure fire Wednesday morning.

According to Big Island Volunteer Fire Company, Inc., crews from several departments around the county were dispatched to a reported fire at Georgia Pacific.
