BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – A North Carolina woman died and a West Virginia man was brought to the hospital after a crash in Bedford County late Friday afternoon.

According to Virginia State Police, the two-vehicle crash took place just before 5 p.m. on Friday, May 28 on Route 43, one mile north of Route 24.

Police says a 2015 Kia Optima did not yield the right of way while entering the roadway and was hit by a 2005 Ford F-450, which was heading north on Route 43.

Officials say the driver of the Kia — 52-year-old Tonya Turner Johnson of Greensboro, N.C. — was wearing her seatbelt, but she died at the scene.

The driver of the Ford — identified by police as 51-year-old Earl C. Ferguson of Romney, W.Va. — was also wearing his seatbelt and was brought to the hospital with injuries sustained in the crash.

This crash is reportedly still under investigation.
