BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Bedford County Animal Shelter is at full capacity and they are actively searching for forever homes for their animals.

According to the Friends of Bedford County Animal Shelter, Inc.’s Facebook page, the maximum capacity at the shelter has been reached due to a high number of owner sign overs, court cases and strays.

They say that the situation has gotten so bad that they have been paying to board some dogs off-site and still cannot keep up with the amount of intake at the shelter.

The facility is an open-intake shelter that is operated by the county, so they cannot legally turn away any animal or owner who is turning their animal in but there is a legal limit to how many animals can be housed at the shelter.

If you are looking for a pet to add to your family, you are asked to visit the Bedford County Animal Shelter on Falling Creek Road in Bedford – next to the sheriff’s office. You may also call the shelter at 540-586-7690.

They are open between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
