HUDDLESTON, Va. (WFXR) — Get ready to swim, run, and bike your way into victory at the Smith Mountain Lake Triathlon on Saturday.

Competitors from across 17 states, the Washington D.C. area, and Canada will compete in the triathlon at Smith Mountain Lake State Park on April 30. There will be a team competition and individual competition in which participants will swim, bike, and run through the course.

The competition kicks off at 9 a.m. at the state park in Huddleston, with participants competing in a 750-meter swim. They will then jump on the bikes for a 20K ride before hitting the pavement for a 5K run through the park. Participants will also have a chance to compete in the Aquabike division which comprises just the biking and swimming portion of the race.

Organizers say that the water portion of the race could be shortened based on water temperature.

Winners will be recognized:

  • Top three overall female and male winners
  • Top three winners in each age group and gender
  • Top three team winners in each category
  • Awards for the Clydesdale, Athena and Military divisions

Registration for the event is open until April 30. You can register by heading to the Virginia Commonwealth’s Games website.

Virginia Amateur Sports and Kinetic MultiSports worked together to create this event. The race is also part of the Virginia & Maryland Triathlon Series and Virginia State Parks Adventure Series.
