Appomattox driver dies after crashing into Campbell County tree, State Police say

CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Authorities are still investigating after a Campbell County crash killed a man on Tuesday morning.

According to Virginia State Police, troopers responded to the single-vehicle crash just after 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19 along Route 24, just east of Virginia Circle.

Officials say a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado was heading west on Route 24, ran off the left side off the road, and hit a tree.

The driver — identified by police as 74-year-old Clarence A. Bailey III of Appomattox — was wearing a seatbelt, but he died at the scene of the crash.
