Lynchburg & Central Virginia News

AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Leaders in Amherst County are considering a boost in fines for littering.

A change in state law now allows a minimum fine of $2,500; 12-months in jail; or both.

The current maximum penalty for littering in Amherst County is $250. The Board of Supervisors is proposing to double that to $500, with a maximum penalty of $2,500.

If approved, there would be a public hearing scheduled on the proposal, which would take place on April 20.
