AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Amherst County Public Schools (ACPS) is morning the loss of the second student from Amherst County High School (ACHS) who died in the Rockfish River incident in Nelson County.

ACPS says 18-year-old Myson Sylvestre was a 12th grader at ACHS. School officials learned that Sylvestre was a passenger in the SUV that was swept into the Rockfish River on December 27. They previously discovered that 11th grader, Christopher Doss was also in the vehicle.

Virginia State Police reported that its Search and Recovery Team discovered Doss’s body on Jan. 5 and Sylvestre’s body on Jan. 23.

ACPS says as a result of this incident, school counselors will be available at ACHS for students and faculty to continue to provide support as they deal with the loss of Sylvestre. School officials say they will continue to support students, staff, and Sylvestre’s family and friends as they return to their normal routines.

The School asks that the public continues to send their condolences to friends and family of Sylvestre.

Sylvestre’s funeral arrangements have not been completed.
