UPDATE 6:37 a.m. (6/13/22): Two people have been taken into custody for multiple charges — including attempted murder — following a Friday morning shooting in Altavista.

The Altavista Police Department says the shooting took place around 9:30 a.m. on Friday, June 10 in the 1000 block of Main Street.

According to police, the people involved in the incident knew each other, which means it was not a random act of violence.

Officials tell WFXR News that there were four victims in the shooting, but no injuries.

Following a discussion with the Campbell County Commonwealth’s Attorney, authorities say they obtained warrants against 19-year-old Shaquan O. Dews of Altavista, as well as petitions against an unnamed minor, charging them with the following:

  • Four counts of attempted second-degree murder
  • Use of a firearm while attempting to commit murder
  • Reckless handling of a firearm
  • Brandishing a firearm
