LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – For the first time, a Lynchburg area church has a female pastor.

Anghaarad Teague Dees was officially installed as the pastor at the Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church in March.

Dees is the first woman to lead the church since its establishment back in 1910.

“I grew up in a congregation that had a woman pastor since the 1980s, so I was like, ‘what do you mean girls can’t be preachers? I’ve seen it my whole life.’ But it’s really neat to be a part of that history and opening that voice up for women.”

Dees says she brings a little something extra to her services – opera.

Before she went to seminary, she says she was a vocal student, so every now and again, she likes to give the congregation a little extra music.
