22 complaints now reported in lawsuit accusing Liberty University of creating unsafe campus environment

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — More people are coming forward in regards to the lawsuit filed against Liberty University about an unsafe campus environment.

WFXR News first reported the story in July after 12 women from across the country filed a multi-plaintiff lawsuit against Liberty University, accusing the university of creating a campus environment that increases the likelihood of sexual assault and rape.

According to a status report released on Thursday, Oct. 14 by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, 10 more people have come forward, including current students. It brings the total number of complaints to 22.

Liberty University released a statement below regarding the status report:

“Counsel for plaintiffs reached out to Liberty’s attorneys several weeks ago to ask that we consider mediation before being officially served with the complaint. With a view toward possible resolution, Liberty agreed to explore that and we have been discussing logistics. We cannot comment on ten additional claimants coming forward though we have heard something similar from plaintiffs’ counsel. Obviously, we would need to understand all the claims to have meaningful mediation talks and we are still awaiting that information. No timeframe has been agreed at this point.”

David Corry, General Counsel for Liberty University

WFXR News reached out to the attorney of the plaintiffs, but has yet to receive any comment on the case at this time.
