Lynchburg celebrates Galentine’s Day

Local News

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Thursday is Galentine’s Day, a holiday that was invented by the show “Parks and Recreation” ten years ago.

The holiday has since then it’s taken on a life of its own and gained in popularity. It’s celebrated the day before Valentine’s Day, and in that spirit of love, it’s a chance for women to celebrate their friendships and their platonic love for each other.

Several restaurants throughout our area are getting into the spirit with food and drink specials, encouraging women to bond.

“Come on out, enjoy it,” said Makayla Springsteen, General Manager of My Dog Duke’s Diner. “Go out with the friends, hang out with the ladies. Sometimes it’s hard to carve out time. Sometimes we all have busy schedules, but today is the day to tell your friends how much you love them and celebrate with them.”

The Lynchburg boutique Gladiola Girls is also celebrating Galentine’s Day by donating proceeds of their sales today to Miller Home, a group home for girls and young women who can’t live with their families.

“It’s also to just celebrate the women that support us and that we try to support in the missions that we have through the store,” said Susan Tatom with Gladiola Girls, “not just through our customers, so we want to give back.”
