A Liberty University Flames football player has been dismissed from the team after being arrested overnight in Lynchburg.
Online court documents show that Keith Best was booked around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.
According to police, officers responded to a home on the 1300 block of Wards Ferry Road on Wednesday, October 24, just before 3 a.m. They had received a call from a woman who reported she had gotten into an argument with her boyfriend. The woman told police when the argument escalated, Best reportedly hit her and strangled her. She claims Best took her cell phone and would not let her leave the room when she had threatened to call the police.
The police report mentions externally visible marks from the alleged assault.
Best was arrested for assault and battery, strangulation, abduction, and preventing summoning law enforcement.
A statement from Liberty University Athletics said Best has been dismissed from the program or a “violation of team policy”.
Officials said the redshirt freshman did not play any games for the Flames.
