BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Commonwealth Transportation Board has approved a project to eliminate the S-Curve on Route 460 eastbound in Bedford County, east of Montvale.
The curve is located approximately eight miles west of Bedford and nearly two and a half miles east of Montvale. This area has limited visibility due to the series of curves in the area and has also been the site of several crashes.
The project, valued at $11 million, includes modifying five existing crossovers, closing an existing crossover as well as adding a new crossover.
To enhance the safety of drivers in the area, the crossover improvements will include restrictions for some left turn areas along Route 460 as well as to facilitate U-turn movements along the route.
Work is expected to begin before summer and is expected to be completed in summer of 2022.
