Lockdown lifted at Halifax County High School

A pellet gun was found at Halifax County High School on Friday. 

Just before noon, the South Boston Police Department was notified about a possible social media video that showed a student with a gun at the school. 

Officers contacted the high school administration and the school was put on lockdown.  

School staff and police found a student who had a pellet gun that looked like a semi-automatic handgun.  It’s believed that this gun is the one that was shown on social media. 

After the gun was found, the school went back to its normal schedule.

Shortly before noon on 12/08/2017, the South Boston Police Department was notified about the possible existence of a social media video indicating that there may be a student at the Halifax County High School who was in possession of a handgun. Officers from the South Boston Police Department immediately contacted the high school administration staff and the school was placed on lockdown. School staff and police quickly located a student who was in possession of a pellet gun that was very similar in appearance to that of a semi automatic handgun. The pellet gun found is believed to be the one referred to on social media and shortly after it was located, the school went back to its normal schedule. The police department is continuing its investigation into this matter.
