A student has been charged after a gun was found inside their car at Blacksburg High School on Friday.
The Blacksburg Police Department found a 22-caliber pistol in the car while investigating an unrelated incident.
The gun was found during school hours and school officials were there with a school resource officer when the gun was found.
It doesn’t seem like the student had any intention to use the weapon at the school and no threats were made towards anyone at the school.

Blacksburg, Virginia, February 23, 2018 – The Blacksburg Police Department is investigating an incident that occurred at Blacksburg High School on February 23, 2018.
The Blacksburg Police Department (in the course of investigating an unrelated incident) recovered a 22-caliber pistol located in the vehicle of a Blacksburg High School student. The vehicle was parked on school property at the time of the incident.
This incident occurred during school hours and school officials were present with the school resource officer when the weapon was recovered.
It does not appear the student had any intention to use the weapon at the school and no threats were made towards the students, faculty or staff of the school.
The Student was charged with: § 18.2-308.1 Possession of a Loaded Gun on School Property (Felony)
The Blacksburg Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
