List of holiday closures for local government offices and services

(WFXR) — Christmas and New Year’s may be in the middle of the week this year, but that will not stop town, city, and county employees from spending the holidays with their families.

Here is a list of holiday hours for various government offices and services across southwest Virginia:

Bedford:

The Town of Bedford’s offices and landfill will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

The Tuesday garbage route will be collected on Monday, Dec. 23 and the Wednesday garbage route will be collected on Thursday, Dec. 26.

Blacksburg:

Town and Transit administrative offices will be closed from Monday, Dec. 23 through Christmas Day and on New Year’s Day.

Blacksburg Transit will operate on reduced service during the week, but will not offer service on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.

Blacksburg’s Community Center and Aquatic Center will both close at 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 23 and remain closed until the morning of Thursday, Dec. 26. Both facilities will also close at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31 and reopen from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year’s Day.

The refuse and recycling pickup schedule will remain unchanged during Christmas week.

Buena Vista:

From Tuesday, Dec. 24 through Thursday, Dec. 26, the city offices for Buena Vista will be closed.

Christiansburg:

Town Hall — along with the Recreation Center and the Aquatic Center — will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

The routes for Monday and Tuesday solid waste collection will be visited on Monday, Dec. 23 while the routes for Wednesday and Thursday solid waste collection will be visited on Thursday, Dec. 26.

Danville:

The Municipal Building, the public library, transit services, and all city administrative offices will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The James F. Ingram Justice Center, however, will close on Tuesday, Dec. 24 and will not reopen until Friday, Dec. 27.

The Wednesday trash collection will be postponed to Saturday, Dec. 28.

Lynchburg:

The city’s Municipal Offices will close on Christmas Eve, and both the municipal offices and the Concord Turnpike Convenience Center will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Trash normally collected on Wednesdays will be collected on Friday, Dec. 27 during Christmas week and on Friday, Jan. 3, 2020 during New Year’s week.

Martinsville:

Martinsville’s Municipal Building, administrative offices, and Constitutional offices will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. However, Martinsville Police, Fire, EMS, and water/sewer plant operators will work their normal schedules over the holidays.

There will be no bulk collection on Christmas Eve, and neither bulk nor trash will be collected on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.

Radford:

The Park Road drop center for brush and large metal will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 24 through Thursday, Dec. 26 as well as New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

During Christmas week, Tuesday’s solid waste will be collected on Monday, Dec. 23; Wednesday’s solid waste will be collected on Friday, Dec. 27; and Thursday’s solid waste will be collected on Monday, Dec. 30.

Solid Waste from New Year’s Eve will be picked up on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020 while solid waste from New Year’s Day will be picked up on Friday, Jan. 3.

Roanoke:

Roanoke city offices will be closed on both Christmas and New Year’s Day.

As for trash collection during Christmas week, “A week” recycling, bush, and brush collection will take place on the regular schedule for Monday, Dec. 23 and Tuesday, Dec. 24, but Wednesday and Thursday trash will be collected one day later than usual. There will be no trash collection from the Central Business District on Wednesday, Dec. 25.

During New Year’s week, “B week” recycling, bulk, and brush collection will also go by the regular schedule on Monday, Dec. 30 and Tuesday, Dec. 31, but Wednesday and Thursday trash will be collected one day later than usual.

Salem:

All city offices will close at noon on Tuesday, Dec. 24 and reopen at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26.

Vinton:

The town’s administrative offices will not open this week until Thursday, Dec. 26.

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday refuse routes will be collected on Thursday, Dec. 26 while Thursday and Friday refuse routes will be collected on Friday, Dec. 27.

Alleghany County:

For Alleghany County and the Town of Clifton Forge, the refuse collection crews will start an hour early along their regular routes on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day.

However, there will not be a refuse pickup for Christmas Day. This week, the Wednesday refuse route for the Potts Creek area and the Falling Spring area will be collected on Thursday, Dec. 26 while the Wednesday refuse route for the Town of Clifton Forge and the Douthat and Wesgate areas will be collected on Friday, Dec. 27.

The Island Ford Transfer Station will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day. The station will close down on Wednesday, Dec. 25 and Saturday, Dec. 28.

Amherst County:

The county administrative offices will be open on Monday, Dec. 23, but they will not reopen again until Thursday, Dec. 26.

Appomattox County:

The county’s government offices will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. County convenience stores will also be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Montgomery County:

The administrative offices for Montgomery County will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.

Pittsylvania County:

The county’s administrative offices will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Pulaski County:

The county’s administrative offices; the Public Service Authority billing office; and the convenience centers at the Dora Highway in Pulaski, Bagging Plant in Dublin, and Mason Street in Fairlawn will all be closed on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Wednesday’s garbage route will be handled on Thursday, Dec. 26 while Thursday and Friday’s garbage routes will be handled on Friday, Dec. 27.

Roanoke County:

The county’s administrative offices, public libraries, and the Brambleton Center and Parks and Recreation administrative offices will all be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.

All library branches will close at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

The Green Ridge Recreation Center will be open from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Christmas Eve and 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, but the rec center will not be open on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.

Explore Park’s Visitor Center will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day except for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to accommodate Illuminights.

The Circuit Court Clerk’s Office will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 24 through Thursday, Dec. 26 and then Tuesday, Dec. 31 through Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020.

As for trash collection, the Christmas Day routes will be picked up on Thursday, Dec. 26 while the Thursday routes will be picked up on Friday, Dec. 27.
