Liberty University is set to host the 10th semi-annual Global Focus Week this week. It’s aimed at raising global awareness to Liberty University students, faculty and staff.
“It’s just one of those weeks that students love,” said Steven Gillum, director of international engagement at Liberty University. “We hear reports and testimonies from students that say, “This is my favorite week I look forward to. This is the week that I can’t wait for it to happen and what’s expected.”
Through Global Focus Week, students will have the opportunity to hear from globally influentials organizations from across the globe, and experience a variety of cultures through interactive events.
“It’s become more and more of a prominent focus for our university as we bring in more high level organizations that want to capture the student’s hearts and give them a vision for serving and working globally,” said Gillum. “Most of the organizations that are coming here are coming because they see the value in our students, and they see a value in what our students believe in.”
The week is about encouraging students to bring their sense of service to the international level.
“We look at our mission statement, which is “Training Champions for Christ” and we really believe that doesn’t just mean here in Lynchburg or even in the state of Virginia or even in the United States. We really believe that means around the world. Because of that, we want to empower and equip students to really engage with their mission and career around the world and find those opportunities.”
Some of the events on Monday, Ocotber 8 include a Spanish Art Exhibition, convocation, and Samaritan’s Purse Emergency Field Hospital.
