An inmate at the Martinsville City Jail has died.
41-year-old Willie Tyrone White had a sudden health emergency on Sunday, March 11 at about 11:30 a.m. and was taken to the jail clinic.
While he was there, White collapsed on the examining table; according to a press release, he wasn’t breathing and no pulse was detected.
As deputies tried to revive him, the Martinsville Fire/EMS arrived and took him to the hospital where White later died.
His body has been taken to the medical examiner’s office to determine the cause of death.

On Sunday, March 11, 2018, at approximately 11:30 A.M. an inmate experienced a sudden health emergency and was assisted to the jail clinic. Upon entering the clinic, the inmate collapsed on the examining table and no breathing or pulse was detected. One deputy began CPR immediately as another deputy prepared the AED. Before the AED could be connected, Martinsville Fire/EMS arrived and used their equipment. CPR was administered until transported to Martinsville Hospital where efforts were continued. The inmate expired after sometime.
The inmate was identified as Willie Tyrone White, age 41, of Martinsville. The body was transferred to the medical examiner’s Office in Roanoke for an autopsy to determine cause of death.
