A recovering Wythe County deputy took a big step forward Wednesday. This comes nearly seven months after suffering injuries while responding to an armed robbery.
The Wythe County Sheriff’s Office announced on Facebook that Deputy Jacob Goins has finished his last round of therapy.
Deputy Goins was shot back in November 2018. He was searching for a suspect in an armed robbery. The deputy and a trooper found the suspect 40 minutes later sitting inside a Greyhound bus stop. The suspect, Olajuwon R. Murphy, began firing his weapon when he was approached by law enforcement.
Murphy died at the scene. Goins was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
