While some were enjoying America’s birthday, some were traveling to their final party destinations.
Those on the roads say there was a lot less traffic than they expected.
They say there was a lot of law enforcement on the roads keeping people safe over the holiday weekend.
Virginia State Police did have extra patrols on the roads this holiday making sure people on the roads were safe.
“There are out there. They had a few people pulled over, but most people are driving really well I’m surprised,” said Marcie Freed, traveling on the Fourth of July.
Virginia State Police says they arrested 115 drunk drivers this time last year.
They say make sure you have a plan to get home safe.
