Greater Lynchburg-area reports drop in weekly unemployment claims

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Filed continued and initial unemployment claims in the greater Lynchburg-area have experienced a dropped last week.

7,742 continued claims for unemployment insurance were filed in the Central Virginia Workforce Development Area during the week of August 1, according to numbers from the Virginia Employment Commission. This is a 5.6-percent decrease from the 8,203 continued claims filed during the week of July 25.

The Central Virginia Workforce Development area includes the city of Lynchburg, along with Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Campbell counties.

Filed initial unemployment claims saw a 36-percent decrease from last week. 509 claims were filed during the week of August 1, while 794 initial claims for unemployment insurance were filed during the week of July 25.
