GRAYSON COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — According to Grayson County Public Schools Superintendent Kelly Wilmore, the semester start date for the county’s schools is delayed by one week following Sunday’s earthquake.

The 5.1-magnitude earthquake occurred near Sparta, N.C. Sunday morning, impacting southwest and central Virginia.

Due to the threat of an after shock, the new start date will be Tuesday, August 18.

Originally, students were to return to class on August 13 with an in-person schedule Monday through Thursday and remote learning on Fridays.
