(WFXR) — Since the Fourth of July fell on a weekend, the United States is celebrating Independence Day on Monday, July 5. This means that a lot of government offices and facilities run by local towns, cities, and counties will be closed for the day.

The Town of Bedford offices and landfill will be closed on Monday due to the holiday. In addition, the refuse scheduled for collection on Monday will instead be collected on Tuesday, July 6.
The Botetourt County government offices, the Botetourt County Libraries, and the Citizens Convenience Center at the county landfill will all be closed on Monday in observance of Independence Day.
Buena Vista‘s city offices will be closed on Monday for Independence Day. In addition, residential refuse collection will be delayed a day, officials say.
In honor of Independence Day, Campbell County administrative offices, the Campbell County Circuit Court, and the Campbell County Public Library will be closed on Monday. However, vital public safety and law enforcement services will continue normal operations.
In Carroll County, the Town of Hillsville office will be closed on Monday to observe Independence Day, so any payments should be placed inside the night deposit box inside the visitors center. Monday’s garbage will also not be collected until Tuesday.
The government offices for Charlotte County will be closed in observance of the holiday on Monday.
The City of Covington‘s offices and the Peters Mountain Landfill will be closed on Monday, so the city refuse collection scheduled for Monday will instead be collected on Tuesday, July 6.
In Danville, all city government offices are closed until Tuesday, July 6, as well as the public library, Danville Transit, and the courthouse. However, city officials say trash and yard waste will still be collected on Monday.
Lexington city offices will not open this week until 8 a.m. on Tuesday, July 6 due to Independence Day.
In the City of Lynchburg, all municipal offices will be closed on Monday in observance of the holiday. In addition, the trash collection scheduled for Monday will instead take place on Friday, July 9.
The City of Martinsville municipal building, administrative offices, and Constitutional offices will be closed on Monday to observe Independence Day. However, essential operations’ employees will follow their normal schedule. Meanwhile, even though there will not be bulk or brush pickup on Monday, the normal garbage route pickup will operate on Monday.
In Montgomery County, the following county offices will be closed on Monday:
- County administrative offices
- Montgomery County Health Department
- The New River Health District says all of its offices are closed on Monday, including the health departments in Floyd County, Giles County, Montgomery County, Pulaski County, and Radford
- Circuit Court Clerk
- Social Services
- Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library
- General District Court
- Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court
- Montgomery Regional Solid Waste Authority administrative offices
- Montgomery County Recycling and Waste Collection sites
- Montgomery County Animal Care and Adoption Center
Over in the Town of Christiansburg, the Town Hall and the Aquatic and Rec Centers will be closed on Monday.
All Pittsylvania County offices will be closed on Monday due to Independence Day.
All Pulaski County offices — including the Pulaski County Public Service Authority billing office — and the convenience centers on Bagging Plant Road in Dublin, Dora Highway in Pulaski, and Mason Street in Fairlawn will be closed on Monday in Observance on Independence Day.
In addition, since there will not be garbage collection on Monday, garbage collection will be on a one-day delay this week, with the collection for Thursday, July 8 and Friday, July 9 being picked up on Friday.
In the City of Radford, Monday’s solid waste collection will take place on Tuesday, July 6, so make sure your garbage is ready by 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The drop center will also be closed on Monday before reopening at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
On Monday, Roanoke city offices will be closed in honor of Independence Day. Officials say the Roanoke City Council will not meet until Tuesday, July 6, and all residential/commercial solid waste collection will be delayed by a day.
In Roanoke County, Vinton town offices will be closed on Monday to observe Independence Day. In addition, on Tuesday, July 6, both Monday and Tuesday’s refuse and bulk routes will be collected.
In Wythe County, the county offices will be closed on Monday, as well as the Wythe County Trash and Recycling Centers and the Wythe-Bland Joint Public Service Authority transfer station, because of the county’s observance of Independence Day. However, the Rural Retreat Pool will be open every day for the month of July.
In addition, the town office for Rural Retreat will be closed on Monday for the holiday, so if you have water or sewer emergencies, call the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office at (276) 223-6001. For all other emergencies, call 911.
Meanwhile, the Town of Wytheville‘s refuse collection for Monday will take place on Tuesday, July 6, along with the normal collection for Tuesday.
