A man is in custody after assaulting a police officer on Sunday morning in Giles County.

According to the sheriff’s office, 25-year-old Trey Amari Cummings is facing charges because he became violent with police.

Authorities were called to the 500 block of Staffordsville Hill road around 9 a.m. for reports of suspicious activity.

Cummings was detained for questioning on possession of drug paraphernalia, but violently struggled against authorities in the process. One deputy was treated for a broken finger, but has since been released.
